An Invitation to Join UUFSA Committees & Activities

Participation in Fellowship committees is crucial to the success of our community. Serving on committees is a joyous way to form friendships, to do needed and creative work, and to help the Fellowship flourish. Please peruse this list of committees and what they do. Then think about where you might want to offer your energy and talent. The committee chairperson will be glad to hear from you and answer any questions you may have.
ADOPT A HIGHWAY
In 1990, ours was the first religious group in St. Augustine to register with Adopt-a-Highway program. We clean the roadside along A1A from Pope Road to Cooksey's approximately every three months. This gives interested and able members the opportunity to feel good about themselves as they improve our environment. If enough participate, the task is completed in about an hour.

ALTERNATIVE GIFTS INTERNATIONAL
This is an interdenominational program that provides holiday gift-giving options that benefit those in need in other countries. The campaign is held each year in the month of December.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
This group meets on the third Monday of each month for human rights updates and letter writing in support of prisoners of conscience.

BUILDING & GROUNDS
This committee works diligently to improve and maintain the building. Volunteers are always welcome to participate in these efforts.

CARE CONNECTION
We help bridge the gap between the caring people in our Fellowship and those in our church community who are going through difficult times.   Serving as outreach to Fellowship members and friends who are ill, committee members organize phone calls, personal visits, send cards, and communicate to the Fellowship when attention to these individuals would be helpful and appreciated

DINING WITH DIGNITY
This large UU group prepares and serves food to over 100 men and women (many of whom are homeless) in downtown St. Augustine one Sunday each month.

FINANCE
Responsible for the financial welfare of the Fellowship, this committee’s activities include Budget & Finance, which involves creating financial policies, developing a budget each year, long range financial planning, and submitting this information to the board for approval. The committee also oversees insurance for the Fellowship.
FOOD PANTRY
The Fellowship staffs the community’s Ecumenical Food Pantry two Friday afternoons per month, from 1 to 4 p.m. Donations of canned food and other items are collected each week. Volunteers are always welcome.

FUN(D)RAISING
The fun(d)raising committee conducts various activities designed to raise money for the Fellowship. Events include our annual Service Auction, rummage sales, arts & craft shows etc.

HOSPITALITY
This committee provides coffee and refreshments after the Sunday morning service. Congregation members are invited to take a turn in coordinating the potlucks held periodically and participate in other special events. Committee members make the coffee and arrange for snacks each week after the Sunday morning presentation.

HOUSE
Our building needs ongoing “spiffing up” and cleaning. This committee does just that! On workdays, individuals are given the opportunity to participate in vacuuming, dusting and washing as needed.

LANDSCAPING
This committee works diligently to improve and maintain the UU grounds. Volunteers are always welcome to participate in these efforts.

LIFELONG LEARNING
This committee organizes discussion groups and other opportunities for Fellowship members to grow in their understanding of Unitarian Universalism, as well as education regarding local, national and international issues. Watch the Quest for activities that may be of interest to you! And join in the early Sunday Forums to hear from and talk with some of the area’s most interesting and important leaders.
MEMBERSHIP
These committee members welcome members and guests to the Sunday services--a “Greeter” has most certainly met you as you entered the building. They also facilitate new members in the process of joining the Fellowship, and provide membership and UU information to those who are interested in learning about our Fellowship and Unitarian Universalism.

MUSIC & CHOIR
An integral part of each service is the music selections. New choir members are encouraged and always welcome to join.

MUUVIES
An ongoing series of movies and documentaries presented on the second Friday evening of each month. A $5 donation is suggested.
NOMINATING
In accordance with UUFSA bylaws, the nominating committee works throughout the year to identify members with leadership potential to serve as trustees and executive members of the Board, as well as to advise the Board on potential committee chairpersons.

PROGRAM
Sunday morning services are pivotal to the Fellowship's well being and this committee is responsible for arranging for Sunday morning speakers, lay leaders, and developing the Order of Service. As the Fellowship does not have a salaried minister, the Program Committee contacts a variety of speakers for programs, which can provide the necessary insight, as well as challenging and sufficiently diverse ideas to meet the spiritual and intellectual needs of members, friends and visitors each Sunday.

Picture
PUBLICITY
The committee’s mission is to provide a presence of the Fellowship in the community. It is responsible for sending notices of Sunday services and special fund-raising events to the local newspaper, as well as providing advertisements for the Fellowship, which appear each week.

QUEST
The mission of the Quest Newsletter is to inform members, friends and other subscribers about the events and happenings of the UU Fellowship in St. Augustine. The Quest includes announcements about upcoming Sunday services, news, events, calendar activities, district and national UU events as well as other information.
Picture
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
The mission of religious education is to provide instructions on Sunday morning that are educational, while providing a sufficiently broad view of the world's religions. This allows our children to develop and grow with a greater understanding and appreciation of various viewpoints.

SOCIAL JUSTICE
The Social Justice Committee welcomes initiatives from members of the Fellowship for study and/or action on local or international issues concerning community needs or human relations. The committee is divided into several subcommittees:
